New Acne Treatments
Although acne is often associated with teenagers and
adolescents, acne can actually occur at any age. In fact, adult
men and women are also prone to occasional breakouts. Acne
results from the clogging up of skin pores because of the
overproduction of skin oil called sebum. Contributing factors to
acne formation may include poor diet, stress, hormonal
imbalances, menstruation, and excess weight.
In the past, the remedy for acne mainly involves taking oral
medicines and using topical creams. But now, technology has come
up with a new solution for treating skin blemishes. Laser
treatments are now readily available for curing acne. These new
acne treatments are very easy, eliminating the need to follow
complicated and long treatments. Another relatively modern acne
remedy is the use of Ultaviolet phototherapy light procedure.
Phototherapy's main course of action is to cure acne by
destroying the acne-causing bacteria. However, proper use of the
UV phototherapy light procedure is needed by consulting a
dermatologist first.
Chemical Peels using salicylic acid or glycolic acid also helps
treat acne by removing dead derma cells to be replaced with new,
cleaner, and clearer skin. Such treatment also helps to unclog
pores, thus preventing acne. Aside from chemical peels, the
microdermabrasion procedure is another treatment that is almost
the same with chemical peels. This treatment uses a device that
exfoliates the skin with the use of crystals and a vacuum that
sucks out the exfoliated skin and crystals used. However, the
microdermabrasion procedure should be done by dermatological
surgeon.
